Welcome to the NEW

This year, Business Pulse Magazine celebrates its 30th year of reporting on the people, companies, news, trends and issues that shape our local economy—and impact the opportunities we share as business people and citizens of our great community.
We’re celebrating this special anniversary by announcing the consolidation and expansion of our Whatcom and Skagit publications into an even bigger and better magazine. Our new magazine even sports a new name. It’s now Northwest Business Monthly Magazine.
Our first issue starts on page three. The magazine’s design and layout will be familiar to you. But you can expect to see a lot more business news from all parts of our region, including our neighbors in Skagit County and on Whidbey Island. We also will include coverage of the San Juan Islands, along with the growing Stanwood-Camano Island area.
We believe this exciting change will prove to be valuable to our readers and advertisers and provide an important step in enhancing the connection among the business communities of Northwest Washington.
A regional business magazine couldn’t come at a better time. Right now, for example, there are more Whatcom County businesses doing business in Skagit, Island and San Juan Counties than ever before—and vice versa. It’s definitely part of a growing trend. And we write about it in this inaugural issue of Northwest Business Monthly in hopes you might come away with some solid tips for doing the same!
There’s no doubt that our business community has begun to carve out a regional identity separate from the rest of Puget Sound. Northwest Washington increasingly has its own set of interests and issues. It seems people in this four-county region share much more in common with one another than with Everett south.
But we also understand these four counties—and the smaller communities that make them up—are very distinct, and in some cases isolated from each other. All of us have worked hard to develop our own identities. Still, it’s our belief we can all benefit from sharing information and creating a strong regional business identity.
It’s in this spirit that we present the first issue of Northwest Business Monthly. Every month, you’ll read about the people and businesses that are impacting our region.
You’ll learn how companies in our region are successfully meeting the challenges we all face. You’ll receive insight and opinions from people who are active in our business community and you’ll learn about new business start-ups, projects and business news that will not only keep you informed, but also help you make decisions that will move your business ahead.
We want your feedback—and your business news! We encourage you to drop us a fax (360-671-3934) or email (editor@nwbusinessmonthlylcom) when you have business news, people news or an event for our monthly calendar to report. If you know about a new business start-up or just want to pass on an interesting story idea let us know. Maybe you’d like to learn more about a particular business or industry. Let us know that, too.
Also, give us a call if you’d like assistance putting together an effective and affordable advertising program that will put your message in front of the decision makers in four counties. We look forward to your input and in serving you well into the future.

Positively,

Tony Larson, Publisher
